UNIMUH Makassar Enters THE World University Rankings 2026: Strengthening the Path Towards a Globally Recognized University

The spirit of pursuing world-class universities is once again embodied by Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (Unismuh). After successfully achieving impressive results in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025, Unismuh has officially been registered in the THE World University Rankings (WUR) 2026 list, one of the most prestigious university ranking systems in the world.

This achievement is a testament to Unismuh's serious commitment to enhancing its global competitiveness. Through this ranking, the university is assessed based on five main aspects, namely teaching, research, research quality, international outlook, and industry relations.

The Rector of Unismuh Makassar, Dr. Abdul Rakhim Nanda, stated that this success did not come easily. The achievement is the result of the collective efforts of the entire academic community who have continuously strived to strengthen the quality of the campus in various fields.

"Being included in the THE WUR 2026 list is proof that Unismuh is constantly moving forward. After being recognized in the SDGs-based ranking, we are now expanding our focus to improving teaching, research, publications, and international collaboration," he said at the Unismuh Makassar campus, Thursday, October 9, 2025.

He also expressed his appreciation to the Unismuh Global Excellence Center (UGEC) which has played an important role in the international publication and ranking process.

"We are very grateful for the dedication and hard work of the Unismuh Global Excellence Center team, who have meticulously prepared all the important data and documents, which ultimately enabled Unismuh to enter the THE World University Rankings 2026 list," he added.

The Head of the Unismuh Global Excellence Center, Prof. Hartono Bancong, also conveyed his gratitude and pride. According to him, this achievement is the result of the collaborative culture that continues to grow in the campus environment.

"This achievement belongs to all of us, lecturers, students, and educational staff, who have contributed through the activities of Higher Education Triad. We believe that solid cooperation is the key to achieving a globally renowned university," he said.

The achievement of the THE World University Rankings 2026 also continues the results of Unismuh in the THE Impact Rankings 2025, where Unismuh ranked 1001–1500 globally, and achieved rankings of 401–600 in the world for the categories of Zero Hunger and Quality Education.

Unismuh's participation in these two prestigious international rankings further strengthens its role in developing higher education in Eastern Indonesia, and also strengthens Unismuh's position as a sustainable and innovative university.

Times Higher Education (THE) is an international organization based in London that assesses more than 2,000 universities in 115 countries every year. The THE World University Rankings are based on 18 assessment indicators that cover the five main pillars: teaching, research, research quality, international outlook, and industry relations.
